Designating March as "Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month."

Whereas, Leaders in the medical community and organizations
dedicated to public health issues will officially recognize the
month of March as National Colorectal Cancer Month; and

Whereas, Annually, an estimated 110,000 new cases of colon and
rectal cancer are reported across America and 50,000 of those
diagnosed die; and

Whereas, Risk factors include diets high in fat and low in
fiber, polyps, ulcerative colitis and family histories that include
ovarian, uterine and breast cancer; and

Whereas, Awareness that a single colonoscopy during one's lifetime will result in significantly fewer deaths and lives will
be saved by recognizing this important health issue and educating
the public on the need for colorectal cancer screening and early
treatment; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the West Virginia Legislature hereby designates the month
of March "Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
American Cancer Society.
